In 1976 Alan & his late wife Jenny Fearn purchased the four hectares of land situated in the village of Nether Heage, known locally as 'sleepy hollow'.
A market garden was established supplying organic fruit and vegetables to local shops, restaurants and public houses.
1982 saw the beginning of Windmill View Nurseries in earnest, when the first commercial glasshouse and polytunnels were erected on the site to grow, produce and sell plants & flowers.
Moving forward and into the new millenium Alan, wife Jackie and supporting families commenced the expansion of the business. Car parking, propagation areas and potting sheds were all constructed. Special attention was given to the ease of navigation and access for disabled customers and wheel chair uses around the nursery so that all can enjoy the enviable views of Heage Windmill and the beautiful Derbyshire countryside.
The nursery continues to develop and adapt to the changing tastes of gardeners today, although many traditional plants are very much back in fashion and vegetable plant sales increase yearly!
This year has the introdution of a bespoke labelling system on the nursery and a brand new web presence. Both will be giving the customers more information and hopefully inspiration to get out into the garden.
